Councillor John Dowling

I grew up on the family farm in Askilton which is between Port Hastings and West Bay Road. My family has had a long and successful history of living in Inverness County since the first Dowling settled here in the late 1700’s.

I have spent the majority of my career in the automotive industry working in parts and service providing the same type of quality care that I would expect as a consumer. As a Councillor, I have continued that dedication and caring towards the residents of Inverness County. At the end of December 2016, I resigned from Central in Port Hawkesbury and became devoted full time as a Councillor for District 6. As this first year comes to an end, it has been an amazing time and I feel proud to be allowed to represent the residents in our beautiful communities.

I have always been deeply rooted to Inverness County and currently live on the same property in Askilton that the first “Dowling” called home.

My family is my “rock” that keeps me connected. My daughter Hannah lives in Fort McMurray but always makes it back to Cape Breton every year. My wife Christine and myself live on Dowling Road with our infant son Calvin and my stepson Aidan. We still farm the land and keep several Highland Cattle on the property as well as several gardens and a small orchard.
