Municipality to Welcome back new CAO to Inverness County

The Municipality of the County of Inverness is pleased to announce that Keith MacDonald, the current President and CEO of the Cape Breton Partnership, has accepted the Chief Administrative Officer role. After a lengthy search and interview process, the Municipality will welcome MacDonald to his new position on February 26th, 2018.

Keith MacDonald, a native of Mabou, has been President and CEO of the Cape Breton Partnership for the last 10 years. MacDonald will spend the next few weeks transitioning out of his current role as he prepares to make the move back to Inverness County to take on the new responsibilities associated with the CAO position. Under his strong leadership the Cape Breton Partnership has achieved many milestones over the last decade including: addressing Cape Breton Island’s economic opportunities and challenges; leading the development and delivery of the Prosperity Framework; the launch of Elevate Magazine; and the creation of an investment campaign that has attracted nearly 200 private sector businesses to the Partnership’s membership.

“We, the Council of the Municipality of the County of Inverness, are very pleased that Keith MacDonald has accepted our letter of offer and will become our Chief Administrative Officer,” said Betty Ann MacQuarrie, Warden of Inverness County. “Council is proud to be able to welcome Keith back home to Inverness County. I look forward to working with him and our municipal team. There are many issues to work on together and I am certain that Keith will have the best interests of the Municipality foremost in every advisory role and administrative decision.”

During his time at the Partnership, MacDonald has addressed a number of key barriers to growth for local businesses, led the Cape Breton Regional Enterprise Network (CBREN) initiatives for Inverness, Richmond, and Victoria Counties. He has also implemented new training programs for employers, improved investment readiness, supported new business start-ups, and helped sustain existing businesses in every sector across the island.

“I am pleased to have the opportunity to work alongside Warden MacQuarrie, councillors, staff, business owners, and community members to create new opportunities for growth and success for Inverness County,” said Keith MacDonald. “I have truly valued my time at the Cape Breton Partnership and the relationships I have built while working with other experienced leaders to advance our island’s economy. I hope to continue to do my part in making our region a stronger and more prosperous place to live and work.”

MacDonald is replacing Joe O’Connor, who retired from the Municipality in October. Since then, Director of Finance, Tanya Tibbo, has been in place as Interim CAO.
