The Municipality of the County of Inverness offers many payment options for its property owners.
Residents can make payments at the Municipal Office, which is located at 375 Main Street, Port Hood. Payments can be made by cash, cheque, money order, bank draft or debit.

Payment by Credit Card - PAYMENTUS
The Municipality of the County of Inverness is pleased to offer an additional payment option for customers interested in using their credit card to pay their tax or utility bill. Customers have the opportunity to make tax and/or utility payments using their Visa or MasterCard. The Municipality has partnered with Paymentus Corporation to bring you the convenience of paying by credit card. Paymentus Corporation is a third party automated payment service that accepts Visa or MasterCard.
To access this service, customers should be ready with their property tax or water utility account number, the balance owing on their bill and their credit card. You will be asked to confirm payment of a convenience fee of 1.75% of the total payment. You will be provided with a confirmation number if the transaction is successful.
Why is there a service fee?
Paymentus charges a fee to use their service. The fee covers payment handling and processing charges. The Municipality of the County of Inverness DOES NOT RECEIVE any part of this service fee. Paymentus is an independent company providing a service for the Municipality and those customers wishing to pay by credit card.

Property owners will soon be able to pay their tax bills and utility bills on Virtual City Hall (VCH). Virtual City is on online citizen self-serve website where property owners and utility customers may create a user name and password to access their property tax and utility accounts. Users will also have the capability to sign up to receive tax and utility bills via email in addition to making payments to their accounts.

Pre-Authorized Payment Plan (PAP)
The Municipality of the County of Inverness offers its customers the ability to have their tax and water bill payments made by preauthorized bank debit. Download the form and complete it in its entirety and enclose a VOID cheque. Incomplete forms will be returned. PAP Terms and Conditions - Pre-Authorized Payments. The Pre-Authorized Payment plan offers you the convenience of having no cheques to write, no worries about overdue payments, and no line-ups at your bank or customer service centres. Enrolment in the plan is free and there are no service charges. Eligibility in the program requires all taxes to be paid up-to-date and you do not pay your taxes with your mortgage.
The Municipality offers two PAP options:
Option 1: Tax Due Date Option
This program allows the customer to pay their taxes on the due dates each year by signing an agreement to withdraw the actual amount of the Annual Tax Bill. The tax account must be a zero balance prior to selecting this option. The due date is the last Friday in August of each year.
Option 2: Monthly Withdrawal
This program is a substitute for post-dated cheques. To assist in budgeting; this program can be used to make regular monthly payments on your accounts. The Pre-Authorized Payment Enrolment Form must be signed indicating the monthly withdrawal on the last day of the month. The amount will be automatically transferred from your Canadian financial institution to your account with us. You will receive your regular billings to maintain your payment records.
If your PAP returns from the bank, a fee of $40.00 is applied to your account. Two Returned automatic debits will result in removal from the program.
