Municipality of the County of Inverness

Inverness County multi-use recreation courts

A new recreation facility will soon be constructed in the community of Inverness, which has been conceived to serve all Inverness County residents.

A procurement process is currently open to hire contractors to complete the work.

The multi-court facility will be constructed in the community of Inverness, in proximity to the existing ball field, with funding from the Nova Scotia Department of Communities, Culture, Tourism and Heritage.

The work will be completed in successive stages over multiple years. The construction schedule will be determined by contractors and by the availability of material and supplies. The municipality is hopeful that construction can begin in fall 2023 and phase 1 be completed in the 2024 season.

Accessible recreation hub

Once the first phase is completed, Inverness County residents will be able to enjoy

  • 3 independent pickleball courts
  • 1 basketball court
  • games area including beanbag toss, ping-pong and checkers/chess

The facility will feature accessible pathways, parking and ancillary items supporting multi generational, all-ability use.

Inverness County has active pickleball and basketball associations, and the new facility has been conceived to serve all county residents, visiting sports teams, as well as seasonal visitors to the county.

It is being built in response to public demand, expressed through the recent recreation and wellness survey for increased access to non-structured physical activity – with no need for a specific time or group, people can show up, organize themselves and play for free.

Supporting social connections and an active lifestyle

Playing sports together is a great way to make and strengthen friendships, and encourages thinking in a team perspective. Both pickleball and basketball are great for balance, agility and hand-eye coordination and are enjoyed by people of all ages.

Basketball has established itself as one of the most popular sports in Nova Scotia. Pickleball is a newer arrival, and has been gaining popularity. Both have the advantage of being relatively inexpensive and requiring little equipment to play.

These videos give a quick introduction to each sport.
