Hard-working Inverness County Volunteers to be Recognized at Annual Appreciation Dinner

PORT HOOD, N.S. – The Municipality of the County of Inverness is calling for residents to nominate dedicated volunteers that deserve recognition during its annual Volunteer Appreciation Dinner April 10th, 2019.
National Volunteer Week, which is taking place Canada-wide April 7th to 13th, 2019, celebrates volunteers, young and old, who work to better their country and their communities every day. Residents and non-profit organizations within the Municipality of the County of Inverness are invited to nominate deserving individuals in their community to be recognized. There is also a special Youth Volunteer of the Year Award, and a Volunteer Family Award.
“Volunteers give so much of their time and energy to the causes and communities that matter to them, and it’s always a pleasure to recognize their contributions,” said Donna MacDonald, Director of Recreation/Tourism at the Municipality of the County of Inverness.
The early-bird deadline for nominations is February 15th, 2019, but nominations are accepted until March 25th. Early-bird nominees’ names will be put in a draw to have a chance to represent Inverness County at the Provincial Volunteer Recognition Ceremony in Halifax.

NOTICE: Boil Water Advisory Still In Effect
NOTICE: BOIL WATER ADVISORY STILL IN EFFECT
To: All users of the Judique Water System
January 29th, 2019
The Municipality of the County of Inverness would like to remind customers of the Judique Water System that they are still under a boil water advisory as a public health preventative action.
Municipal staff are working with service providers to address the major deficiencies of the current treatment process and monitoring equipment in order to meet regulatory requirements and ensure consistency in operations to provide clean, safe drinking water. The Municipality will advise customers of an expected completion date when one has been determined. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
Residents and users are advised to follow preventive measures using water to ensure its safety prior to consumption or use:
- Bring tap water to a rolling boil and maintain for a minimum of 1-2 minutes
- Cool water before using for drinking, making ice, washing dishes, brushing teeth and preparing beverages and food.

Expression of Interest for Audit Committee

OPPORTUNITY: Expression of Interest for Audit Committee
January 14th, 2019
The Municipality of the County of Inverness is seeking two individuals from the Municipality to serve as members on the Audit Committee. The two members at large will rotate off in opposite years to maintain continuity. In the first year, one of the members at large will sit for a one-year term. The Committee carries out a detailed review of the financial statements with the auditor and acts for Council in a financial oversight role. Citizen members are required to demonstrate strong financial awareness.

Letters of application will be received from residents of the Municipality by the undersigned until 12:00 p.m. (noon) on January 31, 2019. Letters of application should include a brief biography of the individual and information on skills or assets that will be useful to the Committee. Experience with municipal government will be considered an asset. Applicants must provide three professional and/or volunteer related references with their application.

OPPORTUNITÉ: Déclaration d’intérêt pour le comité de vérification

La Municipalité du Comté d’Inverness est à la recherche de deux individus de la Municipalité pour siéger au comité de verification. Les deux membres vont alterner les années opposées pour assurer la continuité. Dans la première année, un de ces members siégera pour un mandat d’un an, et ainsi de suite. Le comité va compléter à un examen détaillé des états financiers avec le vérificateur et agit pour le Conseil dans un rôle de surveillance financière. Les members citoyens sont tenus de faire preuve de connaissances financières approfondies.

Les lettres de proposition de candidatures de citoyens de la Municipalité seront acceptées jusqu’à 12h (midi) le 31 janvier 2019. Ces lettres devraient inclure une courte biographie de l’individu et de l’information sur ses connaissances qui seront utiles au comité. L’expérience en gouvernance municipal sera considérée comme un atout. Ces candidats doivent également inclure trois références relatifs à leurs expériences professionnelles et/ou de bénévolat.
