Municipal Facilities Closure: All Inverness County municipal offices and facilities will be closed from 12 noon on Thursday 15th December for the remainder of the day, for a staff recognition event. Garbage pickup will not be affected. Thank you for your understanding.

Municipality Launches Clean Energy Financing Program
Municipality Launches Clean Energy Financing Program
INVERNESS COUNTY, UNAMA’KI –The Municipality of the County of Inverness, in partnership with the Clean Foundation of Nova Scotia, launches the Clean Energy Financing Program. The program offers support towards home energy improvements that will save residents money.
The Clean Energy Financing Program will enable eligible homeowners to access long-term financing to make their homes more energy efficient. Participants in the program will work with the Clean Foundation of Nova Scotia to schedule a Home Energy Assessment with a qualified advisor. The assessment will determine the most appropriate upgrades for the home. These upgrades could include improvements such as new insulation, weather stripping, new windows, heat pumps, and hot water tank recommendations. Once energy upgrades are completed, homeowners will receive a notice of repayment from the Municipality with their property tax bill, and will submit monthly re-payments at a 1.5 percent interest rate for up to 15 years. The Clean Foundation of Nova Scotia team will ensure homeowners have access to all available rebates and incentives for eligible energy efficient upgrades.
“Inverness County is one of two Municipalities in Cape Breton to offer the Clean Energy Financing Program.” said Keith MacDonald, CAO of the Municipality of the County of Inverness. “This program is will make it easier for residents to make home energy improvements by reducing the burden of the up-front costs and enabling residents to make repayments over a longer timeframe.”

Une municipalité lance un programme de financement de projets écoénergétiques
INVERNESS COUNTY, UNAMA’KI – COMTÉ D’INVERNESS, UNAMA’KI – La Municipalité du comité d’Inverness lance le programme Clean Energy Financing en collaboration avec la Clean Foundation of Nova Scotia. Ce programme offre un moyen de financer les améliorations énergétiques domiciliaires qui permettront aux résidents d’économiser de l’argent.
Le programme Clean Energy Financing donne aux propriétaires admissibles la possibilité d’accéder à des emprunts à long terme pour la réalisation de rénovations qui permettront d’améliorer la performance énergétique de leur maison. Les participants au programme travailleront avec la Clean Foundation pour planifier une évaluation énergétique résidentielle avec un conseiller qualifié. Cette évaluation déterminera les améliorations les plus appropriées pour la maison. Les travaux pourraient comprendre l’installation de nouveaux isolants, de coupe-froid, de nouvelles fenêtres, de thermopompes ainsi que des recommandations sur les réservoirs d’eau chaude. Une fois les travaux d’amélioration énergétique terminés, les propriétaires recevront un avis de remboursement de la part de la municipalité avec leur facture d’impôt foncier, et ils soumettront des remboursements mensuels à un taux d’intérêt de 1,5 % pendant une période maximale de 15 ans. L’équipe de la Clean Foundation veillera à ce que les propriétaires aient accès à tous les rabais et incitatifs disponibles pour les améliorations écoénergétiques admissibles.
« Le comté d’Inverness est l’une des deux municipalités du Cap-Breton à offrir ce programme de financement », a déclaré Keith MacDonald, directeur général de la Municipalité du comté d’Inverness. « Grâce à ce programme, il sera plus facile pour les
résidents d’apporter des améliorations énergétiques à leur domicile, car ils n’auront pas à assumer le fardeau des coûts initiaux et ils pourront rembourser le prêt sur une plus longue période ».

INVERNESS COUNTY, UNAMA’KI – Notice to residents. Municipal Offices and facilities will be closed on Monday, September 19 to observe the provincial holiday in honour of her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral service.
This follows the Government of Canada declaration of a National Day of Mourning on September 19, 2022, which was recognized by the Government of Nova Scotia.
Curbside collection will not be affected.

BOIL WATER ORDER: Port Hastings Water System
Please note: As of April 11, this boil order is no longer in effect.

Please be informed that users of the Port Hastings Water System are currently under a boil water advisory as a public health preventative action. This is due to a major water main break causing a massive loss in water from the water storage tower and higher than normal turbidity. Strict water conservation orders are also in place until the level of water in the storage tower has been restored.
Residents and users are advised to follow preventive measures using water to ensure its safety prior to consumption or use:
- Bring tap water to a rolling boil and maintain for a minimum of 1-2 minutes
- Cool water before using for drinking, making ice, washing dishes, brushing teeth and preparing beverages and food.
To conserve water, please:
- Do not take baths and take short showers;
- Do not wash vehicles;
- Use the dishwasher or clothes washer only with a full load.
Please share widely with neighbours, friends, visitors, and members of vulnerable populations such as seniors who may be living alone.

PLEASE TAKE NOTICE THAT the Council of the Municipality of the County of Inverness will consider the adoption of the following By-Law:
By-Law No. 51:
VENDING BY-LAW
The purpose of By-Law No. 51: VENDING BY-LAW is to regulate the sale, or offering for sale, of food, beverages, goods or merchandise not in an enclosed permanent structure, whether on Municipal property or private property within the Municipality. This By-Law will repeal and replace By-Law 15: Auctioneers, Pedlars, Hawkers, and Traders of Goods, which was approved by Municipal Council on July 11, 1994.
On October 7, 2021, Council accepted and approved First Reading of the above By-Law. Council held a Public Hearing for the above By-Law on August 5, 2021.
The motion to adopt By-Law No. 51: VENDING BY-LAW will be presented to Council for Second and Final Reading at the Regular Council Meeting on Thursday, November 4, 2021 at 3:00pm in Council Chambers located at 375 Main St., Port Hood, NS, BOE 2W0.

February Tax Sale to be by Tender Process
PORT HOOD, N.S. – The Municipality of the County of Inverness’ first tax sale of the year will be conducted via a closed tender process. This decision was made by Council in concertation with Municipal staff to reduce the potential spread of COVID-19 and to follow provincial public health gathering guidelines.
Tenders will be accepted until 2:00 pm Atlantic Standard Time on Friday, February 5th.

Inverness County Council Elects New Warden & Deputy Warden
During the Municipality of the County of Inverness Special Council Meeting held Thursday, November 5, 2020 at the Judique Community Hall, three new Councillors and three incumbents were sworn into office by Justice of the Peace Lynn van de Ven.
This new Council, compromised of Alfred Poirier (District 1), Laurie Cranton (District 2), Bonny MacIsaac (District 3), John MacLennan (District 4), Lynn Chisholm (District 5) and Catherine Gillis (District 6), also elected Inverness County’s new Warden and Deputy Warden.
Councillor Laurie Cranton was elected Warden and Councillor Bonny MacIsaac was elected Deputy Warden. Both Warden Cranton and Deputy Warden MacIsaac were also sworn into their respective offices.
Municipal Council and staff would like to sincerely thank the previous Council for their years of dedication and guidance and look forward to continuing their work.

Inverary Manor: Courtyard Visit Guidelines
We have received much feedback about our “Court Yard” visits and appreciate your comments. We are very fortunate that the design and security features of Inverary Manor allow for the safe enjoyment of the outdoors for Residents, in this time of a world-wide pandemic. It also allows us to offer outdoor visits in a way that is consistent with Directives from the Office of The Chief Medical Officer for NS, including the requirements to adhere to social distancing guidelines and maintain the 5 person gathering rule.
Visitors do not actually come into our court yards (or enter our building). Family of our Residents are well acquainted with the property at Inverary Manor and understand that our Court Yards are gated. There is a barrier on the inside of each courtyard which creates a space of about 25 feet between the Resident (who will be inside the courtyard) and the visitor(s) who are outside the gate.
Courtyard visits will take place under the following guidelines:
- Visits must be pre-scheduled by contacting the individual “Villa” where a resident is living.
- No more than 2 visitors from a family household, per resident, per visit.
- Visits will be a maximum of 15-20 minutes
- Visitors are to come to the designated courtyard at the pre-scheduled time and stand outside the gate to see and talk with their loved one. A staff member will accompany your loved one to the courtyard and remain there during the visit.
- We ask families when they arrive on our premises to wait until after a visiting party has left the gated area before approaching the courtyard gate.
The safety and well being of our Residents are always at the forefront of our decisions. Inverary Manor continues to explore ways to address the companionship needs of our Residents and connection with their families. As the days are getting warmer, we look forward to the opportunity for our Residents to enjoy the outdoors and also connect with loved ones in a safe and responsible manner, always working within and adhering to the necessary directives of the Office of The Chief Medical Officer, Public Health.
