Volunteer opportunity | Heritage advisory committee

Help preserve buildings of historical importance

The Municipality of Inverness County is seeking volunteers to sit on the Heritage Advisory Committee.
The committee’s role is to help preserve buildings of historical significance in the municipality. Committee members will provide recommendations to Council on applications to register municipal heritage properties and requests to substantially alter or de-register municipal registered properties.

Interested in joining the committee?

You’re eligible to apply if

  • you’re a resident of the Municipality of Inverness County for at least 6 months before making an application. You must reside in the municipality throughout the term of your appointment.
  • you’re available to meet quarterly and for special meetings, either online or in person.
  • you’re not an employee of the Municipality of Inverness County.

Ideal candidates will have any combination of

  • knowledge of built heritage in the municipality
  • knowledge of the history of the county
  • interest in helping preserve the built heritage of the municipality
  • be an active member of a historical society in the municipality
  • demonstrated previous concern for the preservation of properties with historical significance
  • knowledge of the Standards and Guidelines for the Conservation of Historic Places in Canada
  • ability to receive correspondence by email, access digital documents in MS Word, Excel, or pdf formats, and have a working knowledge of computers.

The deadline for applications is Saturday, March 1, 2025 at 4 pm.
