Sadie Murphy
Congratulations, Sadie Murphy!
The St. Peter’s Catholic Women’s League in Port Hood is pleased to nominate Sadie Murphy as their 2023 Volunteer of the Year. Sadie has been a dedicated and active CWL member with us for over 50 years and has just been recognized for her service and has received her 50th year service pin.
Sadie originally hails from Mabou Ridge where she grew up in a family of 12, seven brothers and five sisters. She went to Normal College in Truro where she received her education in teaching and went on to teach in Mabou Harbour. Her teaching career was short when she met her husband Bowden and entered married life in 1963, they raised a family of seven, five boys and two girls. Sadie and Bowden celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary before his passing in 2014. She lives independently in her home in Dunmore and loves visiting her family and neighbours within the community. Her hobbies include baking. knitting, gardening & watching TV but mostly enjoys the visits from old friends and neighbours. Sadie is a grandmother to thirteen grandchildren.
The CWL is grateful and appreciative for all that Sadie gives of her time – her baked goods for bazaars, dinners, receptions and special events as well as her many donations of homemade preserves from her garden. When called upon there is no hesitation but always “What would you like me to do?” Sadie graciously gives her time to the community and volunteers for the Prayer service at community wakes, does the CWL Honor Guard and spends her time with others in need.
Congratulations, Sadie! We thank you for your service and dedication to our League and to the community.
