Five Water Main Breaks in Inverness, Boil Water Order Issued

Municipality Responding to Five Water Main Breaks in Inverness, Boil Water Order Issued

The Municipality of Inverness County is responding to five water main breaks that occurred earlier today, Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2026, in the community of Inverness. The breaks have resulted in numerous water service interruptions.  Once water is restored, Inverness water system users will be under a Boil Water Advisory.

The boil water advisory is a precautionary measure due to a loss of pressure in the waterlines. It will remain in effect until service is restored and water quality testing confirms it is safe for consumption.

Inverness water system users are advised to:

  • Bring tap water to a rolling boil for at least one minute before use.
  • Let the water cool before using it for:
    • Drinking
    • Making ice
    • Brushing teeth
    • Washing dishes
    • Preparing food and drinks, including infant formula
    • Providing to pets

The water main breaks are due to water pressure variations throughout the water distribution system, placing additional stress on weakened pipes, resulting in additional water main breaks.
