Municipality of Inverness County Seeks Board Member for Joint Police Advisory Board

The Municipality of Inverness County is seeking one member of the public to serve on the Joint Police Advisory Board, which is made up of representatives from the Municipality of Inverness County, the Town of Mulgrave, and the Town of Port Hawkesbury. The appointment shall be for a term of four years.

The purpose of the Joint Police Advisory Board is to provide advice to the Councils of the Municipality of the County of Inverness, the Town of Mulgrave, and the Town of Port Hawkesbury in relation to the enforcement of law, the maintenance of law and order, and the prevention of crime in their respective municipal units.

Volunteer Qualifications:

Applicants must:

• Be at least 18 years of age.
• Have been a resident of the Municipality of Inverness County for at least the last six months prior to applying and remain a resident throughout the term of the appointment.
• Not be ineligible for an appointment pursuant to the Public Appointment Policy of the Municipality of Inverness County.
• Have considerable knowledge of community issues and an understanding of policing values and governance.
• Consent to criminal and background checks (Note: an applicant will be ineligible if criminal and background checks show that the applicant has been convicted of any criminal offence or has been or is the subject of a disciplinary proceeding in any jurisdiction that in the opinion of the Council of the Municipality of the County of Inverness, would reasonably be expected to have a negative impact on their acting as a member of the Joint Police Advisory Board).
• Be willing to commit the necessary time and effort required to carry out responsibilities of the Joint Police Advisory Board.
• Be willing to take the oath of office or affirmation and abide by the code of conduct required by the Police Act and its regulations.

Board Members Will:

• Serve without pay.
• Meet as a Board at least four times per year, or as otherwise required to fulfill the Board’s responsibilities.
