Thanksgiving Weekend Construction and Road Safety Concerns
Municipality Advises Motorists of Thanksgiving Weekend Construction and Road Safety Concerns
With Thanksgiving weekend approaching, the Municipality of Inverness County is advising residents that construction work for the Central Avenue Rebuild Project in Inverness will take place on Saturday, Oct. 10, and Monday, Oct. 12. Construction will pause on Sunday, Oct. 11 unless there is an emergent issue.
Traffic control measures will be in place during construction, and motorists should expect delays.
Although both lanes of traffic reopen at the end of each day, the Municipality and the Inverness RCMP Detachment are aware that some northbound motorists are driving on the wrong side of the road to avoid the temporary gravel and grated surface within the construction zone.
Inverness RCMP Cst. Ben Nickerson is reminding motorists, “driving on the wrong side of the road is both illegal and dangerous. This section of road also includes a blind curve that leads directly into oncoming traffic. Please take your time and remain on the proper side of the road for your safety and the safety of oncoming motorists.”
In addition, access to the Shean Trail Crossing, between kilometres 91 and 92, will be temporarily restricted on Saturday, Oct. 10, and potentially Monday, Oct. 12, during construction hours. An update will be provided on Monday to confirm.
The Municipality thanks residents and motorists for their patience and cooperation as work on this project continues. Motorists are encouraged to allow extra travel time, follow all posted signage and traffic control measures, and drive with care through the construction zone.
