Recreation grants
Grants are subject to the availability of funds in Council’s current year’s operating budget. An approval of a grant application in any year does not imply or suggest that approval will be received in subsequent years. If applying online or by email, you are encouraged to follow up with a phone call after submitting an application to ensure your email was received.

Grant descriptions
Leadership grants
This grant is offered to assist residents interested in taking training programs to become certified instructors. Example: lifeguard, red-cross swim instructors, fitness instructors, etc. Assistance is dependent on providing invoices and receipts as well making the agreement to be available to instruct in Inverness County for at least two years.
Winter Active/Winter Fest
This grant offers opportunities for residents to be physically active in the winter months and to especially encourage children and youth to enjoy the outdoors and less screen time.
Assistance is offered under this grant to communities that take the lead in winter outdoor programs and activities. Assistance is based on 50/50 basis where organization may also benefit from generating additional revenue. Events can take place anytime between December and March. The department also provides snowshoes and cross country skis to host organizations – first come first served.
Sports grants
Assistance available for local school teams, minor sports leagues, dance groups, as well as 4H groups to help cover travel expenses incurred travelling to provincial or national competition. Amounts vary depending on location of competition.
Communities in bloom
This is a community enhancement grant to encourage pride of place and create welcoming neighborhoods. The department will work in partnership with community organizations willing to take the lead in community beautification programs.
Cultural activities for schools
The intent of the grant is to assist schools in hosting cultural presentations or workshops, such as theatre, music, dance, language, etc., in the presentation of cultural activities.
District community development grant:
This grant is designed to assist in the development of innovative ideas and projects that will enhance the prosperity of the Municipality of Inverness County. It funds non-profit community groups whose applications demonstrate their projects and ideas that meet this goal. The applicant must also demonstrate they have the resources and support to complete their proposed projects. Please see guidelines.
